Exchange of information and good practice - Sharing experiences

DEAN organises annual conferences on key issues affecting the strategic management of faculties.

DEAN promotes training and professional development for acting and newly appointed/elected deans and academic managers. Issues such as leadership, decision-making, participation and empowerment, marketing strategies, strategy for internationalisation and multidisciplinarity are the focus of activities.

Networking between members also takes place electronically. Members receive a newsletter three times a year with information on new activities and policy development at EU level. 

DEAN caters for the needs of its members in Europe in the wider geographical sense.

Membership is open to:

• Deans of faculties (all disciplines) from universities and non-universities higher education institutions
• Associate and Vice-Deans
• Academic managers, (associate) vice-deans, Heads of departments with executive functions

The current membership fee is 275 euro per calendar year. A reduced membership is offered for countries as mentioned in the membership policy sheet. Institutional membership is also available.

DEAN Membership offers a number of key benefits including:

• the opportunity to participate in the annual conference at a reduced rate

• the development of "spin-off" activities, such as collaborative EU-funded research and education projects
• online access to the Members' database
• three newsletters per year and regular information updates

The executive committee is responsible for new developments and activities of the network. It is made of members of the network who represent a wide geographical spread and range of disciplines.

DEAN is co chaired by Dr. Flemming G.  Andersen, DEAN of the Humanities, University of Southern Denmark, and Prof. Geoffrey Channon, Assistant Vice-Chancellor, University of the West of England.
